The Class of 1987 has instituted and endowed the “Th. Man Singh Kanota Spirit of Mayo Award.”

As exemplified by the award’s namesake, the award is to recognize an outstanding alumni who has made exemplary contributions in the stewardship and progress of Mayo College and its alumni. By this we mean that the alumni should have made a sustained and impactful contribution to enhancing Mayo’s holistic education mission, brand and network.

It is important to underscore the importance of ‘additionality’ in the criteria of this award. Does a significant milestone or impact exist only because of the nominee’s actions? Such an individual would have demonstrated a lifelong commitment to the institution through the relentless pursuit of greater good for Mayo rather than the narrow lens of self-interest.

The award winner will be selected by the Kanota Spirit Award committee of five people consisting of three nominees of the Old Boys Society (OBS), and two sponsors’ nominees from the 87 batch, one of whom will serve as the committee chair.

Nominations are invited from all alumni. The award will be given out during the main function at prize giving, and it is not necessary that the award will be given out each year.

A nomination package should be uploaded at this link by 15 September 2026 that speaks to how the nominee meets the criteria laid out above.

If a candidate was nominated in the past, they will be automatically considered for the subsequent two years. There is no need to nominate again.
