JTM GIBSON AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE
The JTM Gibson Award is one of Mayo College’s most prestigious honors, presented annually to a maximum of two alumni who have excelled in their profession and made a distinct mark in their field.
About
This award commemorates the remarkable legacy of Jack Gibson (John Travers Mends Gibson, OBE, Padma Shri), who served as Principal of Mayo College from 1953 to 1969. A passionate mountaineer and dedicated educator, Gibson also taught geography and was recognised internationally for his contributions to education. He received the Order of the British Empire (1960) and the Padma Shri (1965)—a rare distinction of being honoured by two governments.
In 2007, to celebrate his birth centenary and honour his enduring impact, the Class of 1966–67 instituted the JTM Gibson Award. Today, it stands as a tribute to his vision and as an inspiration for Mayo College alumni to strive for excellence and leave a meaningful legacy.
