OMAN HOUSE

A Monument of Friendship

A Legacy of Giving Back

The Royal Family of Oman has shared a bond with Mayo College for nearly a century — a relationship built on trust, gratitude, and a shared vision of nurturing excellence. Their generosity has left an indelible mark on the institution, reminding us that Mayo is not just a school, but a global family.

A Gift

More than buildings, they embody the spirit of giving back — enriching Mayo’s
legacy with bonds that transcend borders.

 FOUNDATION

The foundation stone of Oman House was laid on November 29, 1985 by His
Highness Sayyid Fahr bin Taimur Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for Security and
Defence, Sultanate of Oman.

The Contribution

A monumental gift of £40,000 from His Highness and £200,000 from the Sultanate of Oman made its construction possible.

On December 5, 1986, Oman House was formally inaugurated, by His Highness Sayyid Fahr bin Taimur Al Said, cementing its place in Mayo’s heritage.

A Prestigious House for Class 7th Boys

Built in marble with glittering grandeur, Oman House is both unique and prestigious. Its
facilities include:

  • Fifteen dormitories with a capacity of 120 boys, each with an attached dressing
    room.

  • Housemaster’s quarters, two Assistant Housemaster residences, and a tutor’s
    quarters.

  • Guest rooms, a Common Room, Recreation Room, and two Prep Halls.

The first residents — Class VII boys in Autumn 1986 — enjoyed their stay even before the full structure was complete.

Leadership

This strong leadership laid the foundation for Oman House’s traditions of discipline,
camaraderie, and excellence.

Mr. D. V. Dahiya, with prior experience at Ajmer House, became the first Housemaster.

He was supported by Mrs. S. Dahiya and Mrs. S. Chopra as matrons, along with Mr. H. L. Chopra and Dr. S. K. Jain as Resident Assistant Housemasters.

CULTURAL MILESTONES
